Asher Platts

Bio

asherAsher began playing the toy piano at age 3 and could reproduce short commercial jingles by ear. Throughout grade school he was very passionate about table top drumming, much to the chagrin of all his elementary school teachers and his parents, who refused to allow a drum kit in the house. He parents let him begin piano instruction at the age of twelve. There was no music progam at Asher’s elementary or Junior High, but he  joined the high school band his freshman year of high school.  He was placed in the percussion section, where he played bass drum, cymbals, cow bell and a variety of other percussion instruments in the Pep Band.  Every day after school, he would sneak into the band room to play the drum kit, or one of the high school’s cellos that were occasionally left out by careless string ensemble members. By age seventeen, Asher bought his first bass guitar and started playing rock, funk, and playing Primus covers with local friends in Texas; at the age of eighteen he picked up the upright bass and started his foray into jazz. It was this same year he began composition. From then on, Asher has been learning to compose, and hopes to continue learning till the day he dies. And maybe even beyond then.
